A material with character
Solid brass is part of the Bold Lines aesthetic. Its warm colour and ability to develop a natural patina are part of what makes each piece unique. With a little care, you can keep your jewellery looking beautiful for years.
Brass naturally changes over time. Depending on your skin's pH and how you wear your jewellery, your piece may darken or brighten. Warm weather, perspiration, sunscreen, skincare and perfume can speed up this natural process.
Three simple habits :
- Put your jewellery on after skincare, sunscreen, perfume and makeup.
- Remove it before swimming, showering and exercising.
- Store it in your Bold Lines jewellery box when you're not wearing it.
If your brass changes colour
Don't worry, this is natural oxidation, not damage. The original shine can usually be restored with gentle cleaning and polishing.
Restoring the Shine
If your brass jewellery begins to lose its shine, it's easy to restore.
For light tarnishing :
- Place ketchup in a bowl.
- Cover the jewellery completely with the ketchup.
- Leave for around 10 minutes.
- Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and dry with a soft cloth.
The natural acidity of the tomato helps remove oxidation and restore the brass's original shine.
For more stubborn marks:
Occasionally, sunscreen mixed with perspiration can leave stubborn stains on brass. If this happens, use a small amount of Brasso, available from most supermarkets and hardware stores. Apply with a soft cloth, gently polish the affected area, then buff clean. This should help remove stubborn marks and restore the jewellery's shine.
Use Brasso only on untreated brass, not on gold-plated pieces.
